Seasonal Produce & Gardening Services

Do you eat food? So do we! How neat is that?!
In our small market garden we primarily grow basic staple crops such as potatoes, cabbages, dry beans, and flint corn varieties which we grind into cornmeal. We also really (really really) love sauerkraut and fermented pickles, especially with some spicy hot peppers thrown into the crock with them.

We love eating the food we’ve grown and want to share it with you! We sell our produce at the Grand Rapids Farmers Market, but if you’d rather buy directly from the farm, please contact us to see what’s available.

If you’re interested in growing your own garden but need some assistance with the physical work to establish your garden beds, scroll down to get an idea of the gardening services we have to offer.

Seasonal Produce

This is an ever-changing list of foods we try to grow for sale every year. Nearly all are seasonal and the success of any crop in a given year is very weather dependent. We try to post on our Blog page when we will be attending the Grand Rapids Farmers Market with products, but if you’re interested in something now, contact us to see if it’s available.

Garden Bed Prep Services

If you need help prepping existing garden beds, or breaking sod to start a new one, we can help! Our 2-wheeled BCS tractor allows us to help you with your home garden bed prep in an area as narrow as 20″ wide and as large as 1/4 acre.

ATTACHMENTS

  • Rear Tine Rototiller: for efficiently tilling new and existing beds and mixing in compost. Can do rough sod breaking for something like a small deer food plot, or multiple-pass tillage for workable garden soil.
  • Rotary Plow: for hilling raised bed edges, or digging small drainage ditches or swales.
  • Bed Shaper Discs: for shaping raised beds after tilling.
  • Sickle Bar Mower: for quickly mowing small brush and saplings prior to new bed prep, mowing cover crop on existing beds, or maintenance of small fields (1 acre or less).

RATES

+$50/hour

*Includes travel up to 40 miles from the farm (round trip).
An additional $0.70 per mile is charged after that.

For example: New garden prep for a large 1/10 acre plot starting from sod that needs to be mown may take 5 hours or more depending on soil conditions and amount of tilling and bed shaping requested. Mowing, multiple rototiller passes to achieve workable soil, and bed shaping may cost $250+ for one day of work for us to get your garden ready to plant. But, remember! 1/10 acre will provide ample space to grow many of the veggies for a family of 2-4 people in a year, and future annual bed maintenance is much easier after the initial work invested.
